“It would be a poke in the eye – Ex Arsenal legend reveals two reasons why Man United boss Jose Mourinho wants £42m Germany international
Former Arsenal star defender Martin Keown has revealed two reasons why Manchester United boss is interested in signing Mesut Ozil.
Ozil could end up leaving the club for free next summer after failing to pen a new deal. The 29-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract and will be free to discuss terms with European clubs from January 1 onwards.
Speaking to the Daily Mail about Ozil’s proposed transfer to Man United, Keown revealed two reasons why he believes Mourinho is chasing the 29-year-old.
According to Keown, the rivalry between Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho will play a role.

“I think Jose Mourinho would love for that move to happen, for two reasons,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“One, because of the quality of the player, and two because it would be a poke in the eye for Arsene Wenger.
“That rivalry between the two managers has not gone away.”
The 29-year-old played under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid before his £42 million move to Arsenal in September 2013.
Ozil played the full 90 minutes during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United over the weekend. The Gunners are without a win in their last three games.
Arsene Wenger’s side take on Newcastle United at the Emirates stadium this weekend as they look to return to winning ways.
