Former West Ham manager Roeder backs ‘tough guy’ Slaven Bilic to takeover

Former West Ham manager Glen Roeder has backed Slaven Bilic to replace current Hammers boss Sam Allardyce.

Roeder stated that he has been impressed with Bilic’s management at Beşiktaş.

“He’s as good a fit as anyone else. It’s always a gamble getting a new manager, you can only judge them on their past records. Slaven has done well with Croatia and at every club he’s managed. Turkish football is a very difficult place to manage and he’s come through that with Besiktas. He seems a tough guy,” Roeder told talkSPORT.

The Beşiktaş head coach maintained an undefeated home record against English sides in European competition this season.

The Black Eagles beat Tottenham as well as Liverpool and held Arsenal to a goalless draw.

The former Croatian national team manager has however, been criticised for failing to win a single derby against Fenerbahçe or Galatasaray since taking over and his sides capitulation at the end of the 2014-15 season.

Beşiktaş were first in the Süper Lig two weeks ago but have dropped into third place after failing to win any of their last four league games.

Bilic is the bookmakers favourite to replace Allardyce. The former Croatian national team manager is odds on favourite with every bookmaker offering betting options on who the future Hammers head coach will be.
