Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray is reportedly at the forefront of the pursuit to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Nelson Semedo on a free transfer, according to Football Insider.

The move would see the experienced right-back depart Molineux after a four-year stint.

Semedo, who joined Wolves from La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer of 2020, has established himself as a consistently reliable performer and a crucial component of the Premier League squad.

His importance was further highlighted when he took over the captaincy from Mario Lemina earlier this season.

However, the Portugal international’s contract at Molineux is set to expire at the end of the current season, making him a highly sought-after free agent.

While it was initially suggested that Semedo would need to accept a pay cut to extend his stay, it is now understood that Wolves have offered him a new deal, but his departure as a free agent appears increasingly likely.

Galatasaray, fresh off securing the Turkish top-flight title ahead of Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, is reportedly keen to capitalize on Semedo’s availability by offering him a lucrative contract.

The opportunity to play in the Champions League next season, a benefit of Galatasaray’s championship triumph, could prove to be a significant draw for the 31-year-old full-back.

For Wolves, the impending departure of Semedo is expected to be a considerable setback. Manager Vitor Pereira, who arrived in December and successfully guided the club to Premier League safety, was reportedly keen to retain the former Barcelona man’s services.

Losing a player of Semedo’s caliber, particularly on a free transfer, will add pressure on the club as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign.

Despite avoiding relegation, Wolves’ form at the end of the season, with just one point from their final four league games, underscored the need for squad improvement.

The loss of Semedo’s leadership and consistent performance will undoubtedly be felt as Pereira aims to elevate the team’s standing in the Premier League.
