“I don’t want him at Arsenal” – Martin Keown slams star duo, believes Gunners will miss out on Champions League

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has slammed Gunners stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

Keown accused Ozil of holding back and stated that Sanchez is trying to force a move away from the club.

The football pundit went on to state that the duo’s contract situation is creating a “bad smell” at the north London based club.

Both Ozil and Sanchez could end up leaving Arsenal for free in the summer after failing to pen new contracts.

“He’s been holding back. I don’t want him at Arsenal if he is not going to commit to every match,” Keown told TalkSport.

“Sanchez now looks like he’s trying to force that move out of the club. I just don’t like the feeling.

“There is a bad smell at the club and Arsene Wenger can never have been in a more difficult situation at the club.

“It must test him every day having to work in this situation”

Keown went on to state that it will be tough for manager Arsene Wenger to convince Ozil and Sanchez to remain at the club.

“He’s been trying to get these players to sign for two and a half years.

“It’s a conversation which has never gone away and, really, what are you going to get for them now?

“Are they going to secure Champions League football?

“We‘re five points behind Liverpool who look like they are improving all the time.

“I don’t see Arsenal making it into the Champions League and Tottenham might struggle to make it into those four spaces.

“Winning the Europa League might be the only way of getting in there and that might only come at the 11th hour.”

Sanchez was closely linked with a move to Man City over the summer while Ozil has been linked with moves to Man United and Juventus in recent weeks.

However, the duo could be back in action for Arsenal tomorrow evening when the Gunners take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
