“I thought the penny had dropped” – Merson reveals prediction for Man City v Arsenal clash

Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has predicted a goal fest today when the Gunners take on Manchester City in the Premier League.

City host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, kick-off is scheduled for 14:15 (GMT).

Arsenal can move up into the top four if they can record a victory today and cut the point gap between themselves and City down to six.

Pep Guardiola’s side meanwhile are unbeaten this season and have won 13 games in a row. The Citizens defeated Serie A leaders Napoli in Italy by a 4-2 scoreline earlier this week.

Merson believes City will extend their winning run in a high scoring encounter with Arsenal.

“Arsenal went to Chelsea a few weeks ago and got a comfortable goalless draw and I thought the penny had dropped,” Merson told SkySports.

“They did it two years ago at Man City and won, although [Santi] Cazorla was in the team then and he was their best player.

“But I cannot go for anything other than a City win given the way they play. If anyone is going to go there and win, believe it or not, you would go for Arsenal as they play a flamboyant way, they open the game up.

“But I am going to go 3-2 to City as I think there will be goals.”

Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil is expected to start today.

The 29-year-old played a starring role during his sides win over Swansea last weekend.

Meanwhile, Ilkay Gundogan has been included inĀ  Man City’s squad for today’s clash but the Germany international is unlikely to start.
