A report in the Daily Express today has claimed that a source within Manchester United have said that the Red Devil’s are not interested in signing Ilkay Gündoğan from Borussia Dortmund.

The news comes amid reports that the 24-year-old’s transfer to United will be announced after this weekends’ German Cup final clash between Dortmund and Wolfsburg.

The newspaper Metro stated that, ‘United are reportedly set to announce the £20million (€30 million) transfer of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Gündoğan this weekend.’

Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has also confirmed that Gündoğan will be leaving in the Summer.

“Gündoğan will be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer, that is a fact. I am very confident we will see various clubs coming in for him.

“It has not been our intention to see him leaving. It was his ambition to move clubs (this summer). Therefore we agreed. We will sell him.”

United boss Louis Van Gaal last week said that he is searching for a new deep-lying playmaker.

“No.6 is a key player, yes. I have more key roles – the no.6 is just one of those key roles.”

“You have seen this season, for example, because Michael Carrick is injured and I don’t have another.”

Gündoğan has five assists and three goals in 32 appearances for Dortmund despite spending much of the season out injured and is almost certain to leave the Bundesliga giants over the summer.
