‘Let’s hope we get them’ – Michael Owen reveals who Chelsea will be hoping to draw in Champions League

Chelsea booked a place in the Champions League Last 16 as Group C runners-up following their 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid.

Due to UEFA rules which state two teams from the same league and from the same group cannot play each other the Blues can only draw three teams in the next round, Barcelona, PSG and Besiktas.

All three sides topped their group with Barcelona and Besiktas ending the first stage of the competition unbeaten.

Besiktas ended the group stage as the first Turkish side to finish as leaders, win four games, score the highest number of goals in additional to several other records.

Football pundit Michael Owen however, believes that Besiktas will be pushovers.

“Okay, you expect to draw the big boys in the quarters and semis, but in this round you’re hoping for a bit of a soft touch in many ways,” Owen said speaking on BT Sport.

“Everybody will be looking at a team like Besiktas and thinking ‘let’s hope we get them’.

“With all due respect, good team, but at this stage, when you can draw Barca or PSG or Besiktas, we all know who Chelsea will be hoping for.”

Besiktas have won the league title for the past two seasons and have a decent record against the Blues.

The Istanbul giants beat Chelsea the last time they faced them at Stamford Bridge with a 2-0 win in the 2003 Champions League.

The Blues ended up winning the second group stage game 2-0 in Istanbul.

The Last 16 draw will take place at the UEFA headquarters on Monday.
