Liverpool star Emre Can has been tipped to secure a role in the Red’s midfield according to Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce .
“Emre Can is viewed as being very capable of playing that holding role,” Pearce told the AnfieldHQ podcast.
Can came on in place of Adam Lallana in midfield during the second half in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Stoke City last weekend.The Germany u21 international spent last season playing in a three-back and at right back despite being signed as a midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen.
The 21-year-old has recently stated that he would prefer to play in Liverpool’s midfield this season.
“The most important thing is to feature in games for Liverpool – that’s my number one intention,” Emre Can told Liverpool’s official website.
“A midfield role is preferable, but of course it is the manager who decides who plays where. We’ll see where he chooses to play me this season.”
Can put on an impressive display playing in midfield for the Germany U-21 side in the 2015 U-21 European Championships.
The Germany U-21 international is expected to move into midfield next season following the Red’s signing of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton.
Can made a total of 27 appearances for the Premier League outfit this season and also featured in the FA Cup and Europa League.
