The 21-year-old has played the last nine games in defence despite originally being signed as a midfielder when he joined on a £9.75 million move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
The former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has made a total of 18 appearances for the Reds in all competitions this season.
Can was involved in a controversial incident mid-week against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup semi final when Diego Costa stamped on his ankle.
Costa was given a three-match ban for violent conduct by the FA following the game.
Liverpool were on a 10 match unbeaten run prior to the 1-0 loss against the Blues.
The Reds have a great record against West Ham at Anfield having only lost three times against the Hammers at home.
