Manchester United have emerged as favourites to sign Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund after both Barcelona and Bayern Munich cooled their interest in the 24-year-old.
German Daily newspaper ‘WAZ’ has stated that United have ‘largely’ agreed personal terms with the Germany internation.
According to the Turkish news agency DHA, Barcelona have taken a step back in their quest to sign Gündoğan due to the 24-year-old astronomical €12-million-per year demands.
Bayern Munich pulled out of the race after the Bundesliga Champions management team were objected to the move. Bayern’s manager Pep Guardiola is understood to be concerned about Gündoğan’s athletic ability.
The Bundesliga Giants were also concerned at the 24-year-olds ‘excessive wage demands. Gündoğan disappointed visiting Bayern scouts during Dortmund’s 3-1 defeat to Wolfsburg in the DFB-Pokal final last week.
