Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that Mesut Ozil was the focal point of his side which took on Bournemouth in the Premier Leagues yesterday evening.
The north London based side have moved up to first place in the Premier League following their 2-0 win over the newly promoted side. However, Leicester can move back into pole position if they beat Manchester City tonight.
Ozil played a key role in the victory having provided the assist for Gabriel’s opener. The 27-year-old went onto score his sides second goal which secured all three points.
“Mesut was the focal point of our team because we had a new midfield [with Calum Chambers alongside Aaron Ramsey in the centre],” Wenger told a post-match news conference.
“He gives reassurances with his technical ability and his maturity. He gives you that security and he gives you confidence.
The Germany international has now equalled the club record set by Thierry Henry for assists provided in a single season.
Ozil provided 16 assists in 17 league games which is not only the best record in England but also the top five leagues in Europe including Spain, France, Germany and Italy.
Arsenal could end the week on top of the table if Leicester City drop points against Manchester City tomorrow. The Gunners take on Newcastle United this weekend.
