Mesut Ozil has thanked Arsenal fans via Instagram for voting him in as the Player of the Season 2016.
Ozil shared a picture from a previous Arsenal game alongside the caption: “Thanks to all fans for voting me as @Arsenal Player of the Season! That’s really a big honour and motivation for my daily work… #YaGunnersYa #AFC.”
The Arsenal star provided the most assists in the Premier League (19) which was just one shy of Thierry Henry’s all time Premier League record of 20.
Ozil would have shattered the record had his teammates not been as profligate in-front of goal. The Germany intentional of Turkish origin created an all time record 146 chances over the season but Arsenal somehow managed to score the fewest goals in the top four.
The Gunners ended the season without a trophy but Ozil could still win silverware this season with Germany in the European Championships.
Ozil is currently on a tour of the middle east visiting Dubai, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. The 27-year-old is expected to travel to Germany next for Euro 2016 preparations.
