Galatasaray star Wesley Sneijder revealed that the Netherlands national team will miss Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar in the European championship 2016 group stage game against Turkey on 28 March.
“The absence of Ron Vlaar is a blow for us,” Sneijder was quoted as saying in Der Telegraaf.
“But I have been in situations like this before, so I know it does not help to think about it too much. We will do everything within our power to beat Turkey.”
Vlaar has one goal in 32 international caps for the Netherlands national side. The experienced defender has one assist in 14 appearances for Aston Villa this season.
The Netherlands will also be without Manchester United striker Robin van Persie and Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robin due to injury.
The Dutch are currently third in Euro 2016 qualification Group A with six points from four games, while Turkey sit fourth with four points after four games.
Sneijder is expected to start against the Crescent-Stars and knows Turkish football well having played at Galatasaray for the past two seasons.
The 30-year-old playmaker has won the Süper Lig, Turkish Cup and Turkish Süper Cup since his arrival in Turkey.
