‘We have never been approached by Man United’ – Wenger denies reports that Arsenal star will make Old Trafford move

Mesut Ozil has been closely linked with a move to Manchester United this season.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has however, denied reports that United have approached his star man.

Wenger revealed that he has no idea where the rumours stem from but made it clear that they are untrue.

The Frenchman was quoted by Sky Sports as saying: “We have never been approached by Man United in any way, so I don’t see why that came up and who found that, that’s always something that’s been created.”

Ozil is however, entering the last six months of his contract and has yet to sign an extension.

The playmaker of Turkish origin could end up joining United or any other club for free unless the situation is resolved before the end of the current season.

Asked about a new deal for Ozil, Wenger added: “I don’t know how close but he will stay here until the end of the season for sure. The rest is open.”

The 29-year-old has not ruled out staying at the North London based outfit but time is ticking on his contract.

Ozil has played under the stewardship of Mourinho before during his time at Real Madrid where they lifted the La Liga title together.

The playmaker has two goals and five assists in 14 appearances for the Gunners this season.
