Former Liverpool defender and assistant manager Phil Thompson has revealed insight into the Reds contract offer to Emre Can.
The 24-year-old could be on his way out of Liverpool for free at the end of the season after failing to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.
Can has entered the final four months of his contract and is free to discuss terms with foreign clubs.
According to Thompson, Liverpool have offered Can a “fantastic” offer to extend his stay at the club.
However, the SkySports pundit believes the Germany international will eventually end up leaving the Merseyside based club.
“I think he’s a good player, I really do,” Thompson told the Express when speaking about Emre Can.
“(James) Milner was absolutely terrific in Porto he’s fantastic, you’ve got (Georginio) Wijnaldum, there’s a lot of players who can actually play (instead of Can). He’s having a good time of it.
“I don’t think there’s anything that says he’s going to be at Liverpool next year.
“I think that has probably been done, the way I see it. I’ve seen so many players who do things like that.
“They’ve offered him a fantastic deal, they’ve offered him a fantastic deal but I think because of the Bosman, going for nothing, I think he sees it elsewhere.
“That’s the way I see it and if it is Juventus, which it’s looking like, that will be done.
“It will be a loss but I don’t think it will be a massive loss. I think we’ve got some other players around there, (Alex) Oxlade-Chamberlain, who all do a similar job.”
Can has remained an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven despite the on-going contract saga.
The 24-year-old played a starring role during Liverpool’s victory over West Ham United. Can scored his sides opening goal during the 4-1 victory over the Hammers.
