Arsenal star Mesut Özil singled out Shad Forsythe as being an influential figure in his recovery from injury last season.

Özil sustained a knee injury which ruled him out from October until the end of 2014.

“I’m really pleased to have him here because I’ve known him for many years and he does a very good job both with the national team and at Arsenal,” Özil told the official Arsenal website.

The 26-year-old also praised all of the fitness coaches and physios for their work in helping him make a full recovery and return stronger than before.

“But all our physios and fitness coaches here have helped me a lot, especially during my injury. They worked hard to get me fit again and I’m thankful for the support they gave me.
Those improvements to your wellbeing really seem to be showing on the pitch,” he added.

Özil also revealed that he ensures that he stays in shape to prevent further injuries in the future.

“And that’s thanks to the training staff and the team. They really help me. I think it shows now that I have fun on the pitch. What’s most important for me is that I keep myself fit. I feel at my happiest when I’m on the pitch with a ball at my feet and I’m really enjoying that now,” he said.

The World Cup winner was praised by a number of leading football pundits for his post-injury performances this season including Gary Neville, Kaka and Arsène Wenger.

Özil won several personal awards for his form in 2015 including Vitality and PFA Fans player of the month awards.

The 26-year-old wrapped up the season with his second consecutive FA Cup trophy.
