Pep Guardiola decided against signing Arsenal star Mesut Ozil while at Barcelona back in 2010 according to the Daily Star.
The daily newspaper claim that the incoming Manchester City boss Guardiola had to option to sign the Germany international earlier in his career.
The Daily Star goes onto state that Guardiola opted against bidding for Ozil, as he feared his arrival would block the pathway of one of Barcelona’s younger players.
Arsenal take on Barcelona tonight in the UEFA Champions League. Ozil is expected to return to Arsenal’s starting line-up after sitting out of the Gunners’ 0-0 draw with Hull City.
The 27-year-old has been in great form for Arsenal this season and provided the assist for the Gunners last-gasp goal that saw them cut the gap between themselves and league leaders Leicester City to two points.
Ozil has six goals in all competitions and 17 assists in the Premier League – the highest in the league.
