Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is an injury doubt heading into the 2018 World Cup opener for Germany against Mexico.

The playmaker of Turkish origin missed the friendly against Saudi Arabia last Friday due to a knee injury.

Ozil has however, returned to team training, sharing two photographs on Instagram of himself preparing.

The 29-year-old even had time to make a pretty good joke on Thursday.

Germany will kick off their defence of the World Cup against Mexico on Sunday, Ozil will be expected to start if he is match fit.

The Arsenal man played an important role in Germany lifting the 2014 World Cup.

The playmaker is one of two players of Turkish origin in the 23-man squad alongside Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan.
