Real Madrid have first-option to sign £42m Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, Barcelona & Man United also interested

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil could be on his way back to the La Liga.

The 28-year-old’s Arsenal future is cast in doubt after failing to pen a new deal with the north London-based club.

According to the Spanish outlet Don Balon, La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are both interested in signing the World Cup winner.

Per the source, Madrid have the upper hand in the race to sign Ozil. The Champions League holders will be offered first-option on the player due to a clause in the deal which took Ozil to Arsenal from Madrid back in 2013.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have also been linked with a move for Ozil in recent weeks. The 28-year-old is understood to be keen on reuniting with his former manager Jose Mourinho.

The pair won the La Liga during their spell together at Real Madrid. The Sunday Mirror Sport states that Ozil’s representatives have established contact with United and that the Red Devils have responded in an ‘encouraging‘ manner.
