Real Madrid join Fenerbahce in the race to sign Man United striker Robin van Persie

Real Madrid have approached Manchester United to discuss a deal for Robin van Persie according to the newspaper Metro.

Fenerbahçe have also stepped up efforts in their attempt to sign Manchester United striker Robin van Persie according to the Milliyet.

The newspaper report claims that Fenerbahçe have found sponsors that will finance the deal if Van Persie were to accept terms with the club.

Van Persie who made a brief appearance during United’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal on the weekend has scored his lowest goal tally since the 2009-10 league campaign.

The Netherlands international does however, want to stay at United next season according to the Daily Mail.

The 31-year-old is reported to have accepted he may be demoted to a more peripheral role.

Van Persie will enter the final year of his United contract next season but the club have a policy of offering one-year deals to players over the age of 30.

The experienced striker was reported to have turned down an £34 million contract offer from Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe according to the Sun.
