Revealed: Why Crystal Palace Missed Out On Everton Signing Cenk Tosun

Everton completed the transfer of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas last week but Crystal Palace could have snapped him up over the summer.

Besiktas vice-president Ahmet Nur Cebi revealed just how close Palace got to snapping Tosun up.

The Eagles reportedly made a €12 million offer on transfer deadline day.

Talks were underway with just two hours remaining until the end of the transfer window.

Besiktas informed Palace that they would have to increase their bid if they wanted Tosun.

“I got a call from Crystal Palace,” Cebi said.

“They wanted Cenk and offered €12 million. There was just two hours remaining until the end of the transfer window.

“We informed them that their bid doesn’t match our valuation and that is where the talks were left.”

Palace may be kicking themselves that they did not offer more considering the striker’s form.

The Eagles are currently 14th in the Premier League and have struggled for goals scoring just 20 goals this campaign.

Tosun scored 14 goals and provided three assists this season before joining Everton.

The star striker also netted four goals and provided two assists in the Champions League helping Besiktas become the first Turkish side to book a place in the Last 16 as group leaders.
