Revealed: Record Everton Signing Cenk Tosun & Liverpool Star Emre Can Share A Few Things In Common
Cenk Tosun will become the fourth Germany born ethnic Turk to play in the Premier League after completing his move to Everton.
Tosun will join Liverpool midfielder Emre Can, Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil and Manchester City ace Ilkay Gundogan.
Can and Tosun will be playing for bitter rivals but they also happen to share a few other things in common.
Both players were born in the German state of Hesse and they were both part of the Frankfurt academy.
Tosun and Can were both part of the Frankfurt youth academy at the same time. In fact they were teammates for nine years.
Can went onto move to Bayern Munich while Tosun opted for first team football at Gaziantepspor.
The Turkey international was a late bloomer compared to Can but went onto win back to back league titles at Besiktas while also excelling in the Champions League.
Tosun was involved in seven goals in 12 Champions League games for Besiktas which is a club record – five goals and two assists.
The 26-year-old striker is the only Turkish international among the four Germany born Turks with the other three representing the Mannschaft.
The Turkish community of Germany is the largest non-German ethnic group in the country with an estimated population of 3-4 million.
Can and Tosun could face each other on Friday if Everton register Tosun by midday tomorrow.
