“Still so much we can improve” – Man City boss demands more from squad despite 5-0 win over Crystal Palace

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that there is still “so much” room for Man City to improve.

The comments came shortly after the Citizens hammered Crystal Palace by a 5-0 scoreline. City have netted 22 goals in their last five games while only conceding one.

Guardiola’s side sit at the top of the Premier League with 16 points after six games.

However, the Spanish tactician is demanding more from his squad. Guardiola is keen to keep his players on their toes, despite their impressive start to the new campaign.

“The know it and they feel it,” Guardiola told reporters after the game.

“They know the players alongside them are all playing well, that’s the best way. You’re not going to have every player playing three games in a row for 11 months, so we need that competition.

“If the next guy is playing good, they have to play good. They have to keep winning. That’s how you get the best performances.

“We need Ilkay Gundogan back to put pressure on Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva.

“Danilo at left-back was outstanding, how aggressive he was in defence and attack. So everybody has to push the other ones.

“And there is still so much we can improve.”

Germany international Ilkay Gundogan returned to Man City after a ten month layoff last week against West Brom. However, the 26-year-old suffered another knee injury mid-way thought the second half.

Man City take on Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday evening ads they look to continue their impressive run of form. The Citizens recorded a 4-0 win over Feyenoord in the opening Group F clash.
