Strongest Man United 4-2-3-1 v Anderlecht: Probable Lineups – Mourinho given injury boost
The Europa League quarter-final second-leg tie will feature Besiktas welcoming Lyon to Istanbul. Manchester United facing Anderlecht at Old Trafford. Ajax taking on Schalke and Genk vs Celta Vigo.
United head into their second-leg clash carrying a 1-1 aggregate score from the first-leg in Belgium.
The Red Devils will be in high spirits considering they beat Premier League leaders Chelsea 2-0 over the weekend.
Jose Mourinho was handed an injury boost mid-week. Wayne Rooney trained with the team on Wednesday according to the Manchester Evening News and could be available to make his return from injury.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan both started the win over Chelsea on the bench, but the attacking duo are expected to return to Mourinho’s lineup against Anderlecht.
The fact that Zlatan and Mkhitaryan were both benched is perhaps a sign of just how important Mourinho is taking the Europa League.
Mourinho is likely to revert to his traditional 4-2-3-1 setup. Romero is likely to keep his place in goal.
The defence is likely to be comprised of Bailly and Rojo as centre-backs while Valencia and Shaw could start as full-backs.
The central midfield pairing is likely to be Fellaini and Herrera. Paul Pogba could start as an attacking midfield centre with Mkhitaryan and Rashford out wide. Ibrahimovic is likely to start upfront.
United will still be without Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Juan Mata due to injury.
United have won all four of their home games against Belgian sides, while Anderlecht have failed to win in England in 15 attempts.
