Arsenal already have two German internationals within their ranks in Per Mertesacker and Mesut Özil. The pair would ensure Gündoğan settles into life in North London quickly and being in the heart of London’s Turkish community is a bonus as well.
Gündoğan is also close friends with Özil and wants to emulate the career path taken by his pal who also happens to be from a Turkish family.
“Özil has made his own way,” Gündoğan recently said.
“It seems good to me how he has developed his career. He is a perfect representative of Turkey in the German national team. We often speak on the phone.”
The lure playing alongside Özil and formidable baklava on Green Lanes may prove too tempting for Gündoğan to turn down.
