Fenerbahce striker Robin van Persie scored his sides opening goal in his first appearance in the Turkish Super Lig. The Flying Dutchman got on the end of a cross from Nani in the 18th minute before flicking the ball up and striking it past Rizespor keeper Charles Itandje.
Van Persie was included in Fenerbahce’s starting eleven for the first time and it did not take him long to get on the scoresheet.
The Netherland’s international also scored in his sides clash with Atromitos in the Europa League play-off round first leg game.
The Dutch star put the Yellow Canaries ahead on 87 minutes to give the away side an advantage going into the return leg in Turkey.
Van Persie joined Fenerbahçe on a £4.7 million move from Manchester United last summer becoming the second former Red Devil to join the club after Luis Nani – who joined just a week before the Netherlands international.
