Besiktas did not deserve to lose against Liverpool says Bilic [divider]

Beşiktaş manager Slaven Bilic does not believe Liverpool deserved their 1-0 victory in the Europa League Round of 32 first leg at Anfield.

“A 0-0 draw would be a fair decision for this game because we defended well from start to finish and even had our own chances. But that late penalty left us a bit disappointed,” Bilic was quoted as saying on the official Beşiktaş website.

Liverpool won the game thanks to an 85th minute penalty scored by Mario Balotelli.

Bilic did however, underlined that the tie is not over and that Beşiktaş have a fighting chance to go through in the return leg.

“Nevertheless, we still have a chance, and with the support of our fans at the Ataturk Olimpiyat Stadium, we can comeback from this result,” he added.

The Atatürk Olympic is perhaps more popular with Liverpool fans than Beşiktaş supporters as it is the stadium where the Reds won the 2004-05 Champions League.

The Atatürk Olympic is not actually the Black Eagles stadium. The Inönü in the Beşiktaş district is home to the Turkish giants however, it is currently being redeveloped.

The return leg will be played on Thursday 26 February in Istanbul.
