Besiktas president against Super Lig one week suspension

Beşiktaş president Fikret Orman has revealed that he is against the one week Süper Lig suspension.

“We condemn the attack but I am not sure the one week suspension is the way to go about this, it in a way lets them win and could encourage similar attacks again but we have got to respect the decision of the union of clubs,” Orman was quoted as saying on Eurosport TR.

The Fenerbahçe team was attacked making its way toward Trabzon’s airport following a 5-1 Süper Lig victory at nearby Çaykur Rizespor.

The driver Ufuk Kıran was shot and the bus could have been involved in a high-speed crash had the Fenerbahçe chief of security not hit the emergency breaks.

Fenerbahçe stated they would not play another match until the assailants in the attack were caught.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) reacted to the attack by suspending Süper Lig and Turkish Cup matches for a week.
