Schalke 04 released midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng and striker Sidney Sam after the 2-0 Bundesliga defeat by Cologne which put their European place for next season at risk.
“Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sidney Sam have been released with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement.
“Marco Hoeger is suspended from training and matches until Saturday.”
Schalke general director Horst Heldt warned there would be consequences following the embarrassing defeat.
The Bundesliga outfit have managed only one win in their last eight league games.
Schalke reached the Champions League second round last season but could struggle to book a place in the Europa League this season.
Galatasaray have been closely linked with Boateng in the Turkish press but could face competition from Premier League side Tottenham according to GOAL.
MLS side New York Red Bulls are also reported to be in the race for the Ghana intenational according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Lions are currently first in the Süper Lig and in the semi-finals of the Turkish Cup.
Galatasaray take on Mersin Idman Yurdu away from home next in the league.
