Striker who left Man City for £12m over the summer will return to Villarreal

Turkish international star Enes Unal left Manchester City on a £12 million move to Villarreal over the summer transfer window.

Unal was however, loaned out to Levante on an emergency move last month.

The La Liga allows for emergency loans to be drafted in mid season to replace an injured player.

Unal was brought in as a replacement striker, with assurances of first team football.

Under the terms of the agreement, Levante must play Unal at least 70 minutes each game he is available or face a $50,000 fine.

Villarreal president Fernando Roig said: “Enes will return to Villarreal in January.”

The 20-year-old found playing time difficult to come by at Villarreal due to Cedric Bakambu being in red hot form scoring 14 times in 20 appearances this season.

Unal has two goals and two assists in 15 appearances in all competitions this season.

A source close to the player revealed to Turkish-Football that City have an option to sign Unal for £28 million [€32m] after his first season at Villarreal.

The fee rises to £29.7 million [€34m] in his second seasons and £31.4 million [€36m] in his third season.

If City do not wish to activate his buyback clause, Unal has a release clause set at £43.7 million [€50m].

City were insistent on a buy back clause as they believe he has a part to play at the Citizens in the future according to his agent Batur Altiparmak.
