Man Utd legend claims Van Persie goal against Aston Villa will ‘forever be remembered’

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand stated that what Robin Van Persie achieved for the club will never be forgotten by the fans.

Ferdinand recalled Van Persie’s goals against Southampton and against rivals Manchester City in his latest Facebook post.

The statement read: “The goal against Aston Villa FC will forever be remembered by Manchester United fans – the ball from Wayne Rooney….then the volley….oooofff stop it!!! Don’t get me started on the last minute winner away at Manchester City!!”

Van Persie’s memorable volley against Villa helped United clinch a 3-0 win and a record 20th league title.

The 31-year-old striker left Arsenal after an eight-year spell to join the Red Devils in pursuit of Premier League glory and won the championship in his first season at the club.

The Dutch star will embark on a new challenge in Turkey next. Van Persie arrived at the Sabiha Gökçen airport in Istanbul on Sunday and is expected to complete a three-year deal today in a signing ceremony set to be held at the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium.

Van Persie will become the second United player to join Fenerbahçe within a week following the transfer of Luis Nani.
