Mehmet Ekici has scored most free-kick goals in Europe [divider]

Trabzonspor midfielder Mehmet Ekici scored a brace and provided an assist in the Black Sea Storms 3-2 win over Karabükspor in the Süper Lig on Monday.

Ekici has now scored four free-kick goals this season – the highest number of goals scored directly from set pieces in the top five European league according to Opta.

The Turkish international has scored four free kick goals from 13 attempts. Zlatko Junuzović has also scored four times directly from set-pieces but from 16 attempts.

Daniel Wass, Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Hiroshe Kiyotake have all scored three free-kick goals.

Ekici has been involved in 10 of Trabzonspor’s 14 Super Lig goals in 2015.

The 24-year-old has scored seven Süper Lig goals this season, equal to what he managed in 73 appearances in the Bundesliga over four years.

The Turkish international has a total of nine goals and nine assists in all competitions for Trabzonspor this season.
