Galatasaray president Mustafa Cengiz has opened up about Newcastle United target Garry Rodrigues.
The Lions star winger has been closely linked with a move to the Magpies over the summer.
Cengiz claimed that the 27-year-old is one of the top five players in the ‘biggest leagues in Europe’ and also underlined that it will cost more than the €20 million fee being quoted to prize him away.
In fact the club president stated that if head coach Fatih Terim wants to keep him on not even a €50 million offer would be enough to prize him away.
Speaking to Sabah, Cengiz was asked if he’s under pressure to sell Rodrigues in the summer window: “Can you name me 5 better players currently playing in the biggest leagues in Europe who are better than Rodrigues? No you can’t. I saw reports that we are valuing him at around €20m. That’s not correct.
“I think his price will be much more than that. But of course, the decision is up to Fatih Terim. If Garry wants to stay, and if Fatih Terim wants him to stay then of course we will not let him go, not even for €50m.”
The thing is Galatasaray would probably accept €50 million, in fact even a €20 million offer would be enough to striker a deal.
The Lions are under pressure to meet their Financial Fair Play obligations and will have to sell players this summer.
Rodrigues has been in great form this season scoring 10 times and providing 11 assists in all competition.
The Netherlands born winger will win a championship medal if Galatasaray avoid defeat against Goztepe on Sunday.
