Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has stated that the club will have to make a decision over the future of İlkay Gündoğan.
Dortmund do not wish to experience another Robert Lewandowski incident next season.
The Bundesliga giants turned down multiple lucrative transfer bids to keep hold of Lewandowski hoping he would extend his deal.
The Polish international rejected all contract offers and eventually joined Bayern Munich on a free contract.
“Gundogan’s situation isn’t straightforward, because his contract expires in 2016. There will be a decision soon,” Zorc told Kicker.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke also revealed that the Bundesliga outfit could enter talks with other clubs he fails to extend his current deal.
Watzke responded to questions asking whether Gündoğan would be joining United by saying that it all depends on the contract talks.
“If Ilkay tells us he doesn’t want to extend, then we’ll sit down and discuss it. But that hasn’t happened yet,” Watzke told Sky Deutschland on Saturday.
“The media has to be careful. I’m not trying to be rude, but they can’t jump on everything they hear like they did yesterday.”
