Turkish national team manager Fatih Terim has given Mainz 05 a call up to the represent the country at senior international level according to TRT.
Malli has played for Germany at youth level but is eligible to represent both countries at senior level.
The 23-year-old was born in Germany but is part of the ethnic Turkish population of the country which numbers an estimated 3-4 million.
The Mainz midfielder did recently admit that he is open to representing Turkey at senior international level.
“I played for Germany at Under 21 level but I will have talks over whether I will chose to represent Germany or Turkey at international level,” Malli told AA.
Malli has been in impressive form in the Bundesliga recently scoring a hat trick in the 3-1 victory over Hoffenheim on the weekend.
Turkey has several players in the national team who were born abroad but are of Turkish descent.
Nuri Şahin, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Gökhan Töre, Kaan Ayhan, Ömer Toprak and Hamit Altıntop were all born in Germany.
