Emre Can can 'play anywhere and make it look easy' says Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson

Emre Can

Liverpool midfielder-come-defender Emre Can can play anywhere and make it look easy according to football pundit and Reds legend Mark Lawrenson.

Lawrenson wrote in his BBC Sport blog: “The 21-year-old Germany international seems to be the sort of player who can pretty much play anywhere and make it look easy, and the other thing he brings to that position is the fact he can pass the ball so well and bring it out from the back too.”

Can has been playing predominantly in midfield over the current season however, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has deployed the 21-year-old in defensive roles recently.

The young midfielder dropped into a deeper defensive position during the 1-1 draw against Norwich City on the weekend.

Can was also played as a full-back for the Germany national team recently in their latest set of Euro 2016 Group D qualification games.

The 21-year-old is expected to be used as a central midfielder over the next few weeks following injury to Jordan Henderson but Rodgers did use Can as a defender for most of last season in his back-three and as a right-back.

Liverpool take on Carlisle next in the Carling Cup but Can may be left out of the team if Rodgers decided to rotate his side ahead of a busy fixture period.
