Arsenal star Mesut Özil is the best performing attacking midfielder in the Premier League since the start of the season according to the CIES Football Observatory.
Özil has come under quite a lot of stick this season but the academic research group based at the International Centre for Sports Studies have run the statistics and have found the World Cup winner to be performing exceptionally well.
The study takes into account players who have played in 60 per cent of their team’s minutes and statistics applicable for their position.
This is not the first time the CIES have giving Özil a glowing report in fact last season. The Arsenal playmaker was also found to be the second best performing attacking midfielder in Europe since the turn of the year by the CIES Football Observatory’s latest performance rankings.
Özil provided an assist in the Gunners 5-2 win over Leicester City on the weekend and is expected to start against Greek giants Olympiakos in the Champions League midweek.
