Mesut Özil has entered his golden age and is desperate for success according to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
The World Cup winner has had an impressive few weeks. Özil scored and provided an assist in the 3-0 win over Manchester United before the international break, celebrated his 27th birthday last week and then went onto score in the 2-0 win over Bayern Munich midweek to keep his sides Champions League hopes alive.
Wenger said speaking to the official Arsenal website: “He is 27 now, it is the golden age of a football player, 27 to 31, 32, the age when you know your job, you realise suddenly that it is not only important to play, it is important to win as well.”
The 27-year-old has won two FA Cup trophies and the Community Shield since joining Arsenal on a £42.5 million move from Real Madrid back in 2013. Özil has yet to win the Premier League or a European trophy but he did lift the World Cup last summer.
Özil is expected to start against Watford in the Premier League today. A victory could take the Gunners into first place depending on if Manchester City draw or lose.
The Gunners are currently in second place just two points behind league leaders City.
