Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is a ‘fantastic player’ says Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United legend and BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand has come out in support of Arsenal star Mesut Özil describing the World Cup winner as being a fantastic player.

Ferdinand defended Özil’s style of football underlining that he would be a dream to play with and that the amount of chances he creates is worthy of respect.

“People talk about Özil saying he has a languid style that he looks too relaxed that he isn’t trying but this guys stats I mean this guy has the second most chances created in the Premier League since he came here,” Ferdinand said speaking on BT Sport before Arsenal’s 5-1 defeat against Bayern Munich.

Ferdinand also stated that he has been impressed with how much space Özil provides his teammates as well as his ability to pick out his teammates runs.

“He has the most assists this guy he is a creator he sets up chances and loves others to make the runs and they know if they make moves he will set them up,” he added.

“He is a fantastic player.”

Özil has provided a total of nine assists in 10 league games. The 27-year-old has provided more assists in Europe’s top five leagues – England, Spain, France, Germany, Italy – than any other player so far this season.

The World Cup winner has also scored against Premier League giants Manchester United and Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Özil has provided 95 assists since August 2008, only Lionel Messi has setup more goals over the same time period (98).
