Emre Can has heaped praise on Liverpool’s new manager Jurgen Klopp during an interview with the Daily Mail.
The 21-year-old has said that he did not know the former Dortmund coach personally but was impressed by the way he worked.
“The first time I played against him [Klopp] turned out to be my last game for Bayern. I came on for Mario Gomez and we drew 1-1. I couldn’t imagine I would work with him one day in England, though I am really pleased to have such a brilliant coach,” Can told the Daily Mail.
“Yes, I didn’t lose him in Germany but the games were very tiring! Dortmund always put a lot of pressure on the opposition and made life very difficult. Maybe we just had a good day.
“I didn’t know him personally but obviously I saw him at work. As you can see, he is very emotional on the sidelines, it is why he is successful.”
The Germany international was rated the worst player on the field in Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend according to WhoScored. The football statistic website gave the 21-year-old a rating of 4.8 for his performance during the Red’s defeat.
Can had previously made just four defensive errors since joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen last season despite playing most of the league campaign as a defender under the command of Brendan Rodgers.
The 21-year-old of Turkish origin has since been deployed as a central midfielder under Klopp and has started every game under the former Borussia Dortmund head coach.
