Arsenal chief Gazidis: Keeping Sanchez and Ozil showed a”clear statement” of ambition

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has defended the Gunners transfer activity.

The north London-based club have decided to keep hold of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez despite the duo having under 12-months left on their contracts.

Meanwhile, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was allowed to leave in a £35 million move to Liverpool.

Sanchez came close to a deadline day move to Manchester City. However, Arsenal put a stop to the transfer after failing to land Thomas Lamar from Monaco.

The Gunners did however sign Sead Kolašinac on a free transfer and Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.

Arsenal fans were critical of the clubs transfers and their handling of the Alexis Sanchez situation on deadline day.

Howecer, Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis believes his club showed ambition during the summer.

Furthermore, Gazidis claims that Arsenal sent out a ‘clear statement’ by keeping hold of Sanchez and Ozil.

“It was a clear statement of our ambitions and should help refute suggestions we are just about the money,”Gazidis told the Daily Star.

“That is simply nonsense.”
