Turkish international Arda Turan has revealed that Atletico Madrid will always hold a special place in his heart despite leaving for Barcelona over the summer.
The bearded winger joined Barcelona on a £24 million transfer from the Madrid based club on a five year deal.
Despite leaving Atleti for a rival La Liga side Turan believes the Rojiblancos faithful will not turn their back on him.
“I don’t think they will have too much of a problem with my decision, I was part of one of the best Atletico Madrid side in recent times and will always be proud of my time at the club. Atletico Madrid fans were always fantastic and will always hold a special place in my heart,” Turan told NTV Spor.
Turan revealed that he hopes Atleti fans will understand his decision and not hold it against him.
“It was a professional decision, my time at Atletico had run its course but I will always love the club,” he added.
Turan became the first Turkish international to win the La Liga title at Atletico Madrid in 2014. The 28-year-old winger also won the Spanish Cup, the Europa League, the European Super Cup and was part of the side that reached the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
The experienced winger became one of the most successful Turkish players of all time during his time at Atleti enjoyed cult status among the fans.
