Bayern Munich have been long term admirers of Arsenal’s talented playmaker Mesut Özil with the Bundesliga side almost signing him back in 2010 according to the Daily Mail.
The 27-year-old opted to move to Real Madrid and evaded Munich’s clutches. The daily newspaper states that Munich have prided themselves on signing the best German players available but have been unable to land Özil.
Özil missed a penalty for Arsenal two seasons ago when they took on Munich and is expected to start once again tonight.
The Germany international played a staring role in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Watford in the Premier League last weekend.
Özil set up Alexis Sanchez’s opener and Olivier Giroud’s goal in the 68th minute. The Germany international was taken off in place of Arteta in the 81st minute.
Arsenal ended up winning the game and moving back into second place overtaking Manchester United who temporarily moved in second place following their 3-0 win over Everton.
The Gunners have now won back-to-back games in the league and take on Bayern Munich tonight in the Champions League.
