Calimbay – ‘Lifting the foreign player restrictions will increase competition’ [divider]
Mersin head coach Rıza Çalımbay believes Turkish football has two main problems, youth development and debts.
“Lifting the foreign player restrictions will increase competition,” Çalımbay said.
“Turkish football has two problems, the first is youth development the second is the debt situation.
“The new measures will force clubs to pay their players, pay their taxes and short term debts.
“The current situation is counter productive, we cannot play certain players in Turkey but we can play them in Europe so it all becomes a bit pointless.
“Clubs who do not pay their players and those in debt will not be able to make foreign transfers so this could hurt us.”
The current foreign player ruling states that only five non-Turkish players are permitted to play at any one time and three foreign players are allowed on the bench.
Under the new ruling 14 domestic and 14 foreign players will be permitted for each club.
