Liverpool star Philip Coutinho will not be joining Barcelona he revealed that the 1-1 draw against Everton at the Merseyside derby.
Brazilian national teammate Neymar first sparked off rumours that Coutinho could be Barcelona bound when he said: “There’s a lot of Brazilian players that could be playing for Barcelona. One of them is Philippe Coutinho. He’s a great player and he has Barcelona’s style.”
Coutinho was however, quick to play down the rumours after the derby at Goodison Park.
“I heard what Neymar said on the internet but I want to do well with Liverpool,” Coutinho told Daily Star.
“I am happy here and I hope this season will go well for us. Of course it is a nice thing he [Neymar] said. Everyone knows he’s my friend.”
Liverpool are currently without a manager after head coach Brendan Rodgers was sacked following the Everton game.
Coutinho would be able to register for Barcelona immediately were he to join over the winter transfer window and not have to wait like summer signing Arda Turan is currently half way through his six month wait to play for the reigning La Liga champions.
Turan joined the Champions League title holders on a five-year deal from Atletico Madrid over the summer but is unable to play until January due to the FIFA transfer ban in place which restricts the club from registering new players.
