Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan may be a Germany international but like his teammates Mesut Ozil and Emre Can he is an ethnic Turk.
Gundogan had the option to represent either the Crescent Stars or Germany at international level as his family originate from Aydin in Western Turkey.
The City midfielder missed out on Euro 2016 due to injury so has had to watch the football from the his move like most of us.
The 24-year-old sent out a tweet after Turkey scored against the Czech Republic on match day three in Group D.

There was however, a mixed response with some tweeters questioning why he did not opt to represent Turkey while supporting them in his private life.
Gundogan did also get a lot of support for his tweets in Turkish with several fans stating that they were proud of how far he has come and congratulated his move to City.

City now have two players of Turkish origin with the other being 19-year-old striker Enes Unal.
