Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson inspired confidence in Robin Van Persie during his time at the club.
Ferdinand wrote a lengthy Facebook post celebrating his former teammates time at United and went into detail regarding how Ferguson made Van Persie feel special.
The statement read: “He had found a place & a manager that completely got RVP – Ferguson knew RVP ‘s goals would get us the title back & so throughout the first 6months of the season he was drilling it home to the other players to get the ball into him or else! Imagine the confidence that would have been running through his veins after hearing his boss talk like that to a team he respected – about HIM and HIS importance to winning! And yes we went on to win the league that year and a large part of that was RVP’s goals that got us there!”
Van Persie joined Manchester United in a controversial move from Arsenal in the summer of 2012 in search of wining the Premier League title.
The 31-year-old did achieve his dream of winning the championship the very same season helping United win a record 20th title.
The Dutch star scored the goal of the season in the 3-0 victory against Aston Villa that clinched the 2012-13 league title.
Van Persie parted ways with United yesterday and arrived in Istanbul, Turkey ahead of completing his three-year move to Fenerbahçe. The Netherlands international will join former Red Devil; Luis Nani who joined the Süper Lig outfit last Monday.
