Manchester United have requested talks with the Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund over their star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan according to the German newspaper Sports Bild.

Dortmund were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League last week and are 12 points off the Bundesliga top four.

The 24-year-old’s contract runs out in July 2016 and Dortmund will be keen to cash in if Gündoğan does not put pen to paper on a new deal.

According to the Daily Star, United are preparing a €28 million bid for the German international.

Gündoğan has also been linked with a move to Arsenal by the Mirror newspaper.
