Mesut Ozil has proved his critics wrong according to Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger.
The Germany international was previously criticised for failing to score in big games however, Ozil stared in the Gunners win over Manchester United and got himself on the scoresheet.
“You want Mesut to score as well in a big game and he did that against Man United,” Wenger was quoted as saying by Arsenal.com.
“When you are an offensive player that is an important part of it.
“I believe there are goals in him and in that game he has shown it.
“I think it can increase the belief and the hunger of the team. On the other hand you have to show that you can come into every game with that focus.”
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil turned 27 today. The World Cup winner had quite a birthday week having played an instrumental role in the 3-0 win over Manchester United and helping Germany reach Euro 2016.
Ozil joined Arsenal on a record breaking £42.5 million move from Real Madrid in 2013 and has already won two FA Cup trophies and the Community Shield trophy.
The 27-year-old has four assists and one goal in all competition for the Gunners this season.
