Arsenal beat Everton 2-1 at the Emirates to move into first place in the Premier League table.
Olivier Giroud scored the opening goal but Mesut Özil played a major role in creating the chance with his pinpoint cross into the opposition penalty area.
The Frenchman was full of praise for his Arsenal teammate following the goal and also jokingly stated that he tried to reciprocate the assist in the second half but that Özil did not want to score.
“It was a fantastic ball from Mesut,” Giroud told Sky Sports after the game.
“I tried to give him back a goal in the second half but he did not want to score.”
Giroud almost had an assist of his own when he setup Özil in the second half but the World Cup winner hit the crossbar.
Özil now has five assists and two goals in his last five games in all club competitions for the north London based club including goals against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and Manchester United in the Premier League.
Arsenal moved into first position following the win against Everton but Manchester City could overtake the Gunners with a win over United today.
